
Panthers Fall 3-2 to Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a close 3-2 loss to Indiana State Wednesday evening in Terre Haute, Ind. Chelsie Hochstedler and Nicole Ferlito each scored a goal for the Panthers in the loss.
Indiana State took an early 1-0 lead when Katie Geyman scored off a rebounded shot at the 27:41 mark. UNI responded as Hochstedler scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
The Sycamores took the lead again, as Morgan Wendlandt found the back of the net, also on a penalty kick. Ferlito tied the score again at 2-2 on her third goal of the season at the 77:22 mark. Lauren Weis was credited with the assist.
The Sycamores ended UNI's hope for a conference-opener win with a goal by Ellen Gittemeier in the 87th minute to give Indiana State the 3-2 advantage. Gittenmeier scored off a rebound shot by Casey Clark.
UNI returns to action this weekend as they host the Panther Invitational. UNI will play South Dakota Friday, Sept. 26th at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex.
