WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa soccer team managed six shots on goal but could not find the back of the net in a 3-0 loss to Western Illinois Tuesday afternoon at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Association Complex.

The Panthers outshot the Westerwinds, 18-12. In addition to the six saves by WIU keeper Meghan Tyk, the Panthers saw three shots ricochet off the posts and crossbar in the loss.

Lauren Potzman tallied five saves for the Panthers (0-7-1).

Neither team managed a goal through the first half, but Alyssa Johnston broke the scoreless tie with a goal on fast break in the 61st minute.

Nora Potempa scored in the 64th minute off an assist by Jennifer Green to quickly extend the WIU (2-2-1) lead to 2-0. Ashley Hoch added the final score on a goal from the left side off an assist by Potempa.

Nicole Ferlito and Ashley Sill led UNI with five shots each, and both placed one on goal.

The Panthers return to action on Friday when they host South Dakota State at 6 p.m. at the CVYSA Complex.
