WATERLOO, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa soccer team fell 2-0 to in-state rival Iowa Friday night at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex. A constant downpour throughout the contest curbed both teams' offense for the evening as Iowa took 11 shots, while UNI managed five.
Iowa's Stephanie Hyink proved to be too much for the Panther defense as she scored both goals for the Hawkeyes. After a scoreless first period, in which only five shots were taken by both teams, Hyink found the back of the net at the 60:14-minute mark.
UNI took four shots in the second period, with three being on-goal. Tiffany Wendel lead the offensive charge for the Panthers, registering two shots. Chelsie Hochstedler, Kala Negus and Laura Heaton all registered shots for the Panthers.
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Potzman registered three saves in the contest.
UNI returns to action Sunday against IUPUI beginning at 12 p.m. The game will be played on the UNI campus at the Mark Messersmith Track and Field Complex.
