Ames, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming team fell 201-88 against in-state foe Iowa State Saturday afternoon. The Panthers took home three individual first place finishes and won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Freshman Chelsea Hartman won both the 500-yard and the 1,000-yard freestyle in the dual meet. Hartman set a personal best in the 1,000-yard freestyle posting a time of 10:25.85 to finish 11 seconds ahead of second place finisher Megan Thompson of Iowa State. Hartman also swam away from the field in the 500-yard freestyle finishing with a time 5:05.91, while Iowa State's Jenny Vondenkamp took second with a time of 5.11.67.
Sophomore Abby Girard (2:18.97) and senior Amy Moes (2:19.86).
Girard also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.85. Iowa State's Lindsay Wegner won the event in 59.62 seconds to just nip Girard at the finish.
The Panthers took the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Ashley Hunter, Hartman, Megan Miller and Maggie Rickert finished with a time of 1:44.0 to finish five seconds ahead of UNI's `B' team.
The Panthers will take some time off before returning to action Jan. 24th when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for a triangular meet with Kansas and South Dakota.
