Panthers Post Second Straight Volleyball Sweep

Manhattan, Kan. - Junior middle blocker Ashten Stelken (Manchester, Iowa) had 17 kills to lead the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Fresno State at the Varney's Invitational, hosted by Kansas State University. Game scores were 30-24, 30-28 and 30-24.
Stelken hit an impressive .481 (17-4-27) and was named to the all-tournament team, along with sophomore outside hitter Shannon Aschoff (Ankeny, Iowa). Aschoff had 10 kills and hit .391 (10-1-23) against the Bulldogs tonight. Laura Rowen (Hansell, Iowa) had eight kills and a match-high 19 digs for the Panthers.
UNI hit .235 for the match (54-23-132), while Fresno State hit .126 (38-21-135). The Panthers had more digs (65-50) and blocks (10.0-8.50) than the Bulldogs.
With the win, UNI evened its record at 5-5, while Fresno State fell to 2-7. UNI is next in action on Friday, Sept. 14, when the Panthers open Missouri Valley Conference play as they travel to face Missouri State. First serve is 7:00 pm.
