Traci Ollendieck finished with 14 points and five rebounds for UNI, with 12 of her points coming in the second half.
SDSU (6-5) ran out to an early 6-0 lead before Danielle Wubbens scooped up an offensive rebound and scored on the putback. Kalin came up with a steal on SDSU's next possession, and Erin Brocka found Wubbens under the basket for two points that tied the game at 6-6.
Jennifer Warkenthien ended the Panther run with a three from the top of the key to put SDSU back in front, 9-6 with 16:54 on the clock.
Kalin found Boeck under the basket to trim the Jackrabbit lead to one with 15 minutes left in the half. Neither team scored for nearly four minutes until Warkenthien scored on a layup with 11:06 on the clock. That was the beginning of an 8-0 run by SDSU that gave the Jackrabbits a 17-8 lead with 6:17 to play.
Kalin ended a Panther scoring drought that lasted nearly nine minutes when she connected on a jumper at 6:05 that brought the score to 17-10.
The teams traded baskets through the rest of the half, and SDSU took a 21-14 lead into the break.
SDSU stretched its lead to 10, 26-16, but Traci Ollendieck hit UNI's first three of the game to pull the Panthers within seven, 26-19 with 18:49 left in the game. Boeck scored on UNI's next trip to pull UNI within five. Kalin found Ollendieck on a cut to the basket, and the basket capped a 7-0 run by UNI that brought the Panthers within three, 26-23 with 18 minutes remaining.
A free throw by Morgan Meier stretched the SDSU lead to four, but Boeck and Kalin each connected for UNI to tie the game at 27 with 16:15 remaining. At 15:55, Nicole Clausen hit a three from the left baseline to give UNI its first lead of the game, 30-27.
The Jackrabbits responded with a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to build a 41-32 lead with 8:51 to play.
Kalin drove the length of the floor and was fouled as she hit a layup. The free throw pulled UNI within six, but SDSU scored five quick points to stretch its lead to 46-35 with 7:45 on the clock.
Boeck hit the first of two free-throw attempts, but Ollendieck was able to corral the offensive rebound. She missed on the three-point attempt, but Boeck grabbed the offensive board and the putback cut UNI's deficit to eight, 46-38 with 7:14 to play.
Trailing 50-40, Ollendieck hit a deep three from the top of the key to pull the Panthers within seven, 50-43 with 4:27 left on the clock.
The Panthers were never able to cut the SDSU lead to any less than that, though, as the Jackrabbits led by as many as 12 points on the way to the win.
It was a tale of two halves for the Panthers, who shot just 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from the floor in the first half, but connected on a 56.7 percent (17-of-30) of their attempts in the second period. UNI finished the game 22-of-54 (40.7 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers finished 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the free-throw line.
SDSU shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the floor, including 3-of-12 (25 percent) from three-point range. The Jackrabbits were 22-of-28 from the free-throw line.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday when they host Bradley in their Missouri Valley Conference opener.
