The University of Northern Iowa men's golf team is in first place after the opening day of competition Monday at the John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill.
Senior Jordan Weber (Bernard, Iowa/Cascade) fired a two-under par 142 and leads the pack in first place after the opening round on the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. Weber recorded a 72 even par on the first round and countered with a tournament-low 70 to take the lead.
The duo of senior Brook Maher (Prairie City-Monroe) and sophomore Troy Hoffman (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) are tied for sixth place with identical scores of 146. Hoffman scored a low round of 71, while Maher finished with a low of 72.
Junior Blake Hibben (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Northern University) is currently tied for 16th with a 149, carding a low round of 71. Senior Andy White (Keosauqua, Iowa/Van Buren) is tied for 29th after the first day of play with a score of 151. He started off slow with an 80 on the first round, but returned strong with a 71 in the second to complete the scoring for the Panthers.
As a team, UNI stands in first with a score of 581 after the opening day of competition. The University of Detroit Mercy is in second with a 588.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes starting at 7:20 a.m.
