The game was played in front of 55,518 fans - an Iowa State football record. Iowa State's previous attendance record was 54,475 against Nebraska in 1990.
This was the 24th meeting between the Cyclones and Panthers on the gridiron. UNI's only three wins in the series have come in 1900, 1992 and 1994. ISU leads the all-time series 18-3-3 (heading into the game).
UNI WR James Lindgren's first quarter touchdown reception was his fourth
of the season. Lindgren has caught a touchdown pass in each of the Panthers' first four games this season.
UNI CB Dre Dokes's 46-yard interception return for a touchdown was the first interception return for a touchdown by a Panthers since James Idleburgh returned a pick against Northern Arizona 47 yards for a touchdown on Nov. 20, 2004.
For Dokes it was his second career interception return for a touchdown. Dokes's previous interception return for a touchdown came against Southern Illinois on a 95-yard return in the 2004 season.
UNI QB Eric Sanders started the game 12-for-12 passing, besting his previous start against Texas State in the 2005 NCAA I-AA national semifinals when he completed his first nine passes for 200 yards and a touchdown against the Bobcats. Sanders's first incompletion against the Cyclones came at the 11:28 mark of the third quarter.
UNI PK Brian Wingert extended his consecutive field goals made streak to
19 before missing the final 51-yarder with six seconds left. It was Wingert's first missed kick of the year after having made all 14 extra points and nine field goals.
