PANTHERS FALL 4-1 TO WESTERN ILLINOIS
Waterloo, Iowa-- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team fell 4-1 to Western Illinois despite tying a season high with seven shots on goal. Lindsey Daugherty netted her third goal of the season and seventh of her career, tying her with Candice Divoky for fourth in UNI soccer history.
Daugherty (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) gave UNI its third lead of the season in with a goal in the 36th minute. The sophomore rebounded a corner kick and punched the ball through the left side to give UNI a 1-0 advantage. Sarah Otten (Marshaltown, Iowa/Marshaltown) and Meghan Schoeberl (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) shared the assist on the play.
The Westerwinds knotted the game at one just 70 seconds later and took a 2-1 lead with just over a minute left in the half. WIU netted its third goal in the 52nd minute and scored in the 72nd minute for four straight unanswered goals and a 4-1 win.
The Panthers tied their season high with seven shots on goal with Jackie Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver) leading the way with two. Daugherty's goal counted as her only shot of the day and put her atop a list of five Panthers with one shot-on-goal.
The Panthers fall to 0-10-0 on the season.
UNI opens Missouri Valley Conference play at Indiana State Sept. 29. Game time is at 3 p.m.
