"Our offense came back to us this game. We have so many people that are capable of producing on the offensive line for us," head coach Kathy Kakoyianni-Bering said. "Our defense is set and if our offense comes through like today, we will win games."
Junior midfielder Candice Divoky scored one goal and had two assists against the Mavericks. Freshman forward Lindsey Daugherty scored the first and last goals of the game, her first collegiate goals ever.
"Candice is phenomenal. She is a key part of everything we do and if you give her the ball she will do something with it," Kakoyianni-Bering said. "The freshmen also have been great. They are going out there and playing with no fear and doing what I need them to do."
The Panthers only took 23 minutes to get on the board as Divoky set up Daugherty, who knocked one into the back of the net. UNI took a 2-0 lead heading into halftime, as senior midfielder Sarah Huffer scored her fifth career goal 39 minutes into the game off an assist by Divoky.
Senior forward Shanon Dechant was taken out of the game in the first period with a slight ankle injury but returned in the second half, scoring on a pass from junior Kira Anderson in the 50th minute.
The Mavericks worked on a comeback in the second period, scoring two unanswered goals in the 51st and 67th minutes. However, Divoky silenced MSU with an unassisted goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Daugherty then scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Jenna O'Hara.
Sophomore Krista Thorley spent the entire game in the net for UNI, tallying nine saves.
