UNI Posts 74-57 Win Over Wayne State in Exhibition

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Senior guard Ben Jacobson (Sioux City, Iowa) had a game-high 21 points to lead the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 74-57 win over Wayne State (Neb.), Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game played at the West Gym.
Jacobson hit 9-of-13 shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, in just 19 minutes of play. He scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half, as UNI raced to a 46-26 lead at intermission.
Jacobson was joined in double figure scoring by three other Panthers starters: Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) with 16, and Erik Crawford (Oakdale, Minn.) and Eric Coleman with 10 apiece. Stout led the Panthers with six rebounds and hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor. Panthers starting point guard Brooks McKowen (Fairbank, Iowa) had four assists and no turnovers, adding five steals in 16 minutes of play. Freshman guard Travis Brown (Richfield, Minn.) scored eight points in four minutes of action off the bench. Brown hit all three of his shots, including a three-pointer.
The Panthers displayed outstanding ball control, committing just six turnovers on the night, and dished out 16 assists. The Panthers forced 14 Wildcat turnovers, and grabbed nine steals on the night.
UNI opens its regular season on Sunday, Nov. 20 against Western Carolina, at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers clash with the Catamounts is the second game of a doubleheader, the Mediacom Two Rivers Shootout, with Drake facing Detroit in the first game at 4:00 p.m.
