Panther Swimmers Fall to Hawkeyes in Dual Meet Action

Cedar Falls - The UNI swim team dropped its dual meet record to 0-7 on the season with its 148-46 loss at the University of Iowa this evening. Despite the tough road battle, seven Panther swimmers were able to improve on their 2004-05 best times in their respected events.
Sophomore Stephanie Gable (Des Moines, Iowa/Hoover) was one of the seven Panthers to improve on her best times and was the lone Panther to earn a first-place finish, clocking in at 10:53.92 in the 1000 yard freestyle. Her previous best time in the 1000 free for this season was set at 11:09.22. Gable also earned a second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.60, an improvement on her previous best time of 5:27.67.
Another top performer for UNI was senior Lena Shatnaya (Almaty Kazakhstan/College of Sports), finishing second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.16).
The Panthers are back in action again tomorrow (Jan. 22nd) against Luther College in the Wellness and Recreation Pool in Cedar Falls for what is the swimmers' last home meet of the season. It will also mark the last home meet for two UNI seniors, Shatnaya and Amy Haldeman (Davenport, Iowa/North). Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
