Panther Women Wrap Up Regular Season Competition in Omaha

Cedar Falls - The Panther swim team wrapped up its regular season competition with dual meets in Omaha, Neb. this afternoon. The Panthers fell to a final score of 19-119 against the University of Nebraska-Omaha and were defeated 29-109 by the University of Northern Colorado.
Sophomore Stephanie Gable (Des Moines, Iowa/Hoover) was the Panthers' top finisher of the afternoon, placing second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:20.72). This also marks a new 2004-05 best time for Gable in the event. Gable finished third in the 1000 yard freestyle as well with a time of 11:07.29.
Freshman Mandy Lopez (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) swam away with a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:03.32 and replacing her previous best time of 1:03.76.
The final UNI swimmer to earn a third-place finish was senior Lena Shatnaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan/College of Sports), as she placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke and set a new 2004-05 best time in the event at 2:32.10.
Two Panthers were able to set new collegiate best times in their particular races. In the 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Lauren Mendel (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia) replaced last season's best time of 1:15.84 with a time of 1:13.62. Sophomore Rachael Robnett (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) also improved her time of 2:23.90 in the 200 yard IM to 2:23.53.
UNI concludes the regular season with a dual meet record of 0-9. Next up, the Panthers travel to Carbondale, Ill. Feb. 17-19 to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference championships.
