Cedar Falls, Iowa - Freshman Vince Polakovic (Bratislava, Slovakia) scored a game-high 18 points to help lead the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 93-34 win over the University of Dubuque in an exhibition basketball game at the West Gym.
Polakovic, a 6-8 forward, hit on 7-of-11 shots from the field and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line in 20 minutes of play. Three other Panthers reached double figures in scoring on the night, as freshman guard Adam Viet (Ackley, Iowa) had 13, freshman center Atila Santos (Salvador, Brazil) tallied 10 and sophomore forward Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) also had 10.
Viet hit all four of his shots, including three three-pointers, in his UNI college debut after redshirting a year ago. Santos, who also redshirted in 2003-04, added five rebounds and three blocked shots. Twelve of the 13 players that saw the court for UNI scored, and none played more than 23 minutes.
The Panthers connected on 33-of-67 shots from the field (55.2 percent), while holding Dubuque to just 13-of-52 shooting (25.0 percent). In addition, the Spartans committed 27 turnovers on the night and were outrebounded 43-29.
Nick Thomas was the lone Spartan player in double figures with 13.
