Cedar Falls - The University of Northern Iowa swim team dropped its dual meet record to 0-3 on the season this afternoon in Normal, Illinois. The Redbirds of Illinois State knocked off the Panthers 196-93.
Once again, senior Lena Shatnaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan/College of Sports) had an outstanding performance for the Panthers, accomplishing one second-place finish and two first-place finishes. She finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.77), as well as first in the 200 yard IM (2:16.87). Shatnaya's second-place finish was in the 200 yard breaststroke, in which she raced to a time of 2:33.88.
Sophomore Stephanie Gable (Des Moines, Iowa/Hoover) was the Panthers' top swimmer in the 1000 yard freestyle, placing second (11:09.22). She also placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:28.16.
In the 50 yard freestyle, sophomore Erin Danielson (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) picked up second-place with her time of 25.81.
The Panthers have a long break before they are back in action on December 10th in Ames, Iowa to take on the Cyclones of Iowa State University. The meet is scheduled for 7 p.m.
