
Panthers Fall to Cyclones 135-63

Cedar Falls - The University of Northern Iowa swim team resumed action this evening against the Cyclones of Iowa State University. The Panthers traveled to Ames where they fell with a score of 135-63 and dropped their dual meet record to 0-4 on the season.
The Panthers' best event was the 200 yard breaststroke, where senior Lena Shatnaya (Almaty, Kazkhstan/College of Sports) finished first with a time of 2:34.10 and sophomore Lauren Mendel (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia) came in second at 2:38.14. Sophomore Samantha Clemons (Bloomington, Ill./University High) came in third in the event with a time of 2:50.81. Shatnaya also finished third in the 400 yard IM, clocking in at 4:47.10.
Sophomore Erin Danielson (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) grabbed a second place finish for UNI in the 50 yard freestyle, racing to a time of 25.83. Other top swimmers included sophomore Megan Little (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) who raced to a third-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:20.25 and freshman Mandy Lopez (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) who finished third in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:19.94. Sophomore Stephanie Gable (Des Moines, Iowa/Hoover) also finished third in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:28.44.
The Panthers' next outing is Jan. 15th at Truman State in Kirksville, Mo. Meet time is set for 2 p.m.
