Panther Swimmers Fall to South Dakota in 2004 Opening Meet

Cedar Falls - The University of Northern Iowa swim team opened up the start of its 2004-05 campaign at home with a 136-90 loss against the Coyotes of South Dakota Saturday (Oct. 23rd).
UNI sophomore Rachael Robnett (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.85. Robnett was backed up by senior teammate Amy Haldeman (Davenport, Iowa/North) who came in second with a time of 2:05.23. The Panthers also claimed a victory in the 50-yard freestyle when sophomore Erin Danielson (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) swam a time of 26.45, surpassing her freshman teammate Jamie Keefer (Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) who finished with a time of 26.66 to come in second. Senior Lena Shatnaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan/College of Sports) finished first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.13, and Haldeman grabbed another nine points for the Panthers when she swam a time of 58.40 in the 100-yard free, good enough for a first place finish.
However, USD grabbed first-place finishes in seven of the 11 events, and were able to sneak by the Panthers, dropping UNI to 0-1 in dual meet action. The Panthers are back at it again Saturday (Oct. 30th) against Minnesota State-Mankato in Cedar Falls with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
