Panthers Head To Wisconsin For Meet Under The Lights

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field program will head to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin Twilight on Friday, May 5 for its final regular season meet of the season.
The meet is set to start at 2 p.m. in the field with action on the track getting underway at 5:45 p.m. The Panthers are taking 40 men and 40 women looking to get in one last competition before they take on the MVC Outdoor Championships in Wichita, Kan., May 12-14.
UNI is coming off the Drake Relays where senior Brandon Carnes won the 100 meter dash title for the second year in a row and the Panther relays teams got in some key competition. After the relays, both the men's and women's 4X100 and 4X400 meter relay teams are in scoring position in the Missouri Valley Conference, including a No. 2 rank in the men's 4X400.
The Panthers also had outstanding individual performances at the Drake Relays with Kelsey Kirchoff running a personal-best in the 10,000 (35:53.27) that ranks No. 2 all-time at UNI and No. 5 in the Valley and Hannah Truniger running the second fastest time in UNI history in the 5,000 meters (16:23.87) to rank No. 2 in the MVC.
On the men's side, Shane Kirchoff launched himself into the top-three in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a new career-best time of 9:17.04 while Thomas Yezek scored a PR in the discus (176-5.00) that puts him in the top-five in the MVC and in the top-40 in the NCAA West.
