HIGH SCHOOL: Courbat was a four-year varsity letterwinner for Cedar Falls High School and coach Ryan Schultz. He totaled 637 points, 438 rebounds, and 123 blocked shots across four seasons including starting roles as an upperclassman. Courbat shot over 50% in each year (62.7% overall on 277-of-442 shooting). The Tigers reached the Class 4A semifinals in all four active seasons with back-to-back state championships in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. He was a McDonald’s All-America nominee that earned 2020-21 IPSWA Class 4A Third Team All-State recognition as a team captain in his senior year. Courbat averaged 10.6 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game and finished the season ranking third among Class 4A players in offensive rebounds (76) and fifth in rebounds (171) and blocks (35). He had 9.8 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game as a junior and helped Cedar Falls claim third place at the state tournament. He was fourth in Class 4A for blocks (47) and fifth for offensive rebounds (62) as well. Courbat received recruiting interest from Oregon State, Iowa, Creighton, Virginia Tech, Princeton, Stanford, and Wisconsin before signing with UNI.
