Joel Filani came to UNI in the summer of 2024 from Northern Arizona University where he was the receivers coach and passing game coordinator.Â
While at NAU, the Lumberjacks had the sixth-best passing offense in the Big Sky conference including a top-six receiver last season.
Before NAU, Filani spent stints as the receivers coach at Washington State, as the receivers coach at Texas Tech, as the receivers coach at the University of North Texas, as the offensive quality control coach/receivers at Washington State, and as an offensive graduate assistant with the receivers at Boise State.
Prior to his coaching career, Filani spent time in the NFL after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 draft by the Tennessee Titans. Filani spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He earned his Bachelor's degree from Texas Tech in 2006 after a four-year career as a receiver with the Red Raiders.
