CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team dropped a 6-1decision to Northern Illinois on Friday afternoon at the Black Hawk Tennis Center.

UNI's lone point of the match came in singles play at the No. 2 position, where Lucia Schuknecht delivered a gritty comeback victory. After dropping the first set 6-3, Schuknecht bounced back with a 6-4 second set and closed out the match with a 10-7 win in the super tiebreaker over Theodora Kousiou.

Northern Illinois secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2 doubles, Kousiou and Irmak Budak defeated Yangjiaxin Li and Andrea Noa Galin, 6-1, while Isabella Righi and Lucia Yecora earned a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Kayla Santosa and Kanyanut Sudsaard. The No.1 doubles match between Nataly and Malika Kabdesh and Andjela Raznatovic and Lucia Schuknecht was left unfinished with NIU leading 4-3.

In singles action, NIU claimed victories at five of the six positions. Raznatovic battled in a three-set match at No. 1 singles but fell to Irmak Budak, 6–4, 4–6, 10-7. Additional wins for NIU came at the No. 3 through No. 6 spots to seal the match.

The Panthers will face North Dakota at 10 a.m. CT on February 7 at the Black Hawk Tennis Center in Waterloo.
