ST. LOUIS --- The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) on Thursday morning announced that former UNI outside hitter Kira Fallert, along with four additional student-athletes, have been nominated for the NCAA's prestigious Woman of the Year Award.
Fallert, who played volleyball for the Panthers from 2021 to 2024, was automatically nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award by virtue of being named this year's recipient of the MVC's Charlotte West Award back in June, given to male and one female student-athlete for excellence in academics, athletics and leadership on campus and within their communities.
A Maplewood, Minnesota native, Fallert was named the 2024 MVC Co-Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, finishing her career as a two-time all-conference performer, three-time Elite 18 Award winner and three-time Scholar-Athlete First Team selection. She finished seventh in program history in career kills and is a member of UNI's double-grand club with more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.Â
Fallert has also been a prominent member of the community, volunteering at her hometown church, helping at camps for children with communication disorders, coaching youth volleyball and serving at food banks.
"Holding myself to such high standards developed strong time management and emotional dedication traits essential to my future as a speech-language pathologist," Fallert said. "The confidence I now have in reaching my professional goals stems largely from the discipline and drive volleyball instilled in me."
Other nominations submitted by the MVC office include Chloe Farro (Indiana State, swimming & diving), Paola Campigotto (Murray State, tennis), Maya Johnson (Belmont, softball) and Katelyn Young (Murray State, basketball).
The NCAA Woman of the Year award winner will be announced at the upcoming NCAA Convention this coming January in Washington, D.C.
