CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI interim head soccer coach Alex Place Thomas on Wednesday announced the addition of Derek Krebsbach to the Panther coaching staff for the 2025 season.
"I'm thrilled to have DK as a part of our staff," Place Thomas explained. "He brings experience from club, high school and collegiate soccer that will help elevate our program. His ability to connect with student-athletes and build championship programs will be a huge asset to UNI soccer."Â
Krebsbach, a Denver, Iowa native with ten years of coaching experience, has spent the past four seasons as the head girls soccer coach at Denver High School, helping develop the Cyclones into a Class 1A power. Under Krebsbach, Denver has posted a 69-11-1 record (.856) with a pair of North Iowa Cedar League (NICL) champions, a pair of regional titles and two Class 1A state runner-up finishes in each of the last two seasons. He was also named the IGCA's Northeast Class 1A District Coach of the Year in 2024, as well as the 2025 IGCA Class 1A Coach of the Year. Krebsbach has also worked as a staff admin coach with the Cedar Valley Soccer Club since May 2021.
Prior to his tenure at Denver High School, Krebsbach spent six years as the head boys soccer coach at Waverly-Shell Rock High School after spending one year on staff as an assistant coach, leading the Go-Hawks to double-digit win totals in four different seasons as well as a Class 2A state tournament appearance in 2021. While coaching in Waverly, he also held a number of club coaching positions with the Iowa Rush North Girls Soccer Club, including a two-year stint as the club's head girls club coach.
Krebsbach played four seasons collegiately at Wartburg College in Waverly from 2012 to 2015 before graduating with a degree in sports administration and management. He also spent time as a part-time assistant coach with his alma mater in 2018.
