UNI softball claimed a series victory after a 4-1, eight-inning win against Missouri State.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI softball closed a three-game series against the Missouri State Bears with an extra-inning victory to claim a game-three and series victory. The 4-0 contest saw a 0-0 score after the first seven innings and all five total runs coming in extras.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The contest saw a 0-0 score after the seven scheduled innings with just four total runners reaching second base through the seven innings as the matchup headed into extra innings. The Panthers scored first with four runs in the top of the eighth inning. Addison McElrath drove in Kylee Sanders with an RBI double before a three-run home run from Kate Lappe, her seventh long ball of the season, scored Adalyn Reynolds and Savanna Jemilo to give UNI a 4-0 lead after the top of the eighth inning. The Bears looked to mount a comeback with a two-out home run to cut the UNI lead to three. A great defensive play in center field by Paige Peterson shut the door on the Missouri State comeback effort and sealed UNI's 4-1, extra-inning victory.

Four Panthers recorded multi-hit performances with a pair of hits from Kylee Sanders, Addison McElrath, Kate Lappe, and Ella Smithson. Lappe finished with a game-high three RBIs. Anna Wischnowski picked up her 11th win of the season with five strikeouts in a 5.1-inning relief effort.

The Panthers head to Des Moines, Iowa for a midweek contest against the Drake Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 8. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT with the game available on ESPN+.
