Panther wrestlers compete at U.S. Open in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- Thirteen wrestlers associated with the UNI wrestling program took to the mats over the weekend at The Expo at World Market Center in Nevada in both freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines.

Of the baker's dozen athletes, who represented the Panther Wrestling Club and Immortal Athletics Wrestling Club, combined for 41 total match victories. Three athletes would earn podium finishes as Cameron Guether finished third in the 125-kilogram bracket of Greco-Roman competition, while five-time NCAA All-American Parker Keckeisen took fourth in senior freestyle action at 86 kilograms. Nick Fox also finished fourth in freestyle at 86 kilograms in the U20 division.

Geuther opened his Greco-Roman competition with consecutive wins in his bracket over Carl Orchard (Team Quest) and third-seeded James Hartlerod (Midwest RTC) before falling to second-seeded Torin Forsyth (Mules WC) in the semifinals. He would finish the tournament with a pair of wins over Tristen Hitchcock (West Point WC) and Kaden Darwin (AR RTC) to secure his top-four finish.

Keckeisen, making his senior freestyle debut, cruised through his first three matches of the competition, defeating Jason Bynarowicz (Colorado Mesa WC), Daniel Williams (Navy WC) and Rocco Welsh (KD Training Center). Following a semifinal loss to top-seeded Kyle Dake (NLWC) and a consolation loss to Chance Marstellar (New Jersey RTC), Keckeisen, the four-seed in the bracket, would finish strong with a 5-2 decision over former Iowa State wrestler Marcus Coleman (Cyclone RTC) to take fourth place.

In U20 freestyle action, Fox opened his 86-kilogram weekend with four consecutive victories over Dennis Iraheta (World Team TC), Cory Thomas Jr. (Michigan WC), Tyrel Miller (Wrestling Factory of Cleveland) and Carson Thomas (Indiana RTC). In the semifinals, the fourth-seeded Fox would come up short against top-seeded Aeoden Sinclair (Tiger Style WC), but would bounce back against De'Alcapon Veazy (Black Fox Wrestling Academy) en route to a fourth-place finish.
