Panther tennis falls in MVC Tournament opener to Belmont

VALPARAISO, Ind. — The UNI women's tennis team dropped its opening round match of the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) on Friday morning, falling 4-1 to Belmont at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
The Bruins secured the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead, winning two of the three matchups. UNI's top duo of Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso claimed a 6-4 win against Viktoria Kliimand and Hana Sokolovic. Belmont would answer with victories at the number 2 and three positions to take the team point.
In singles, Dalecka continued her standout play at the top of the lineup with a straight-set win over Anatasi Zholdakava, 6-3, 7-5, to earn UNI's lone point of the dual.
Cardoso competed at the number two spot but fell to Viktoria Kliimand, 6-0, 6-0. Kim Zizek led in the third set against Hana Sokolovic before the match was left unfinished. Andjela Raznatovic dropped her match at the number four spot, 7-5, 6-1. Kanyanut Sudsaard battled to a 7-5, 5-5 scoreline before the match was left unfinished, and Abbie Peterson fell in the number six spot in a competitive 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 match.
UNI concludes its 2024-25 season with a 7-15 overall record, a 4-4 mark in MVC duals, along with its first trip to the MVC Team Tournament since 2022. The Panthers' seven dual wins this season were also the most for the program since winning eight in 2016-17.
