
Panthers end tournament run in the MVC Quarterfinals

UNI women’s basketball falls to Belmont 64-46 in the MVC Quarterfinals.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- UNI women's basketball ended its 2025 MVC Tournament run in the quarterfinals after a 64-46 loss to the no. 3-seeded Belmont Bruins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers opened the matchup on an eight-point run to take an early lead over the Bruins. Belmont's first bucket came with just over six minutes left in the first quarter, but that bucket opened a 12-2 run to give them a 12-10 advantage over the Panthers. The quarter ended with the Bruins holding a slim, one-point lead over the Panthers at 13-12.
Belmont dominated the second quarter with a 20-6 advantage in the frame including a 14-point run to close the frame with a 33-18 score. Kayba Laube was the lone scorer in the second quarter with a pair of three-pointers. The Panthers shot 14.3% (2-for-14) in the second quarter.
UNI held a 6-1 advantage through the opening minutes of the third quarter to cut the Belmont lead to 10 at 34-24. The Panthers continued to battle and cut the deficit to five points before the Belmont defense started standing tall and held the Panthers to just six points in the fourth quarter. The Bruins took home a 64-46 victory over the Panthers.
Kayba Laube and Maya McDermott led UNI with 12 points each. Laube finished with five rebounds while McDermott assisted on four buckets. Ryley Goebel finished with four blocks and five rebounds.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI drops to 17-16 on the season and 1-7 all-time against the Bruins after the loss to Belmont.
- Maya McDermott became the third Panther in UNI history to crest 600 points in a single season.
