UNI softball took home a 4-1 victory over Omaha in its final game of the Doc Halverson Classic.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI softball closed opening weekend with the final matchup of the 2025 Doc Halverson Classic. UNI took on the Omaha Mavericks in a rematch of Friday's game-two contest. The Mavericks took the first lead, but the Panthers answered and never looked back, coming out of the matchup with a 4-1 victory inside the UNI-Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first three innings of the matchup saw a lot of defense and closed with a 0-0 tie before the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. The Panthers responded with a trio of runs in the bottom half of the frame which included runs scored by Kylee Sanders and Adalyn Reynolds, running for Addison McElrath, which were driven in by Katelyn Callahan and a run from Drew Hinrichs who was driven in by Lappe.

The Cats tacked on one more with a homerun from McElrath in the bottom of the fifth inning, her third of the season, to take a 4-1 lead with two innings to play. The Panther defense stood strong as UNI came out victorious with a 4-1 final.

Addison McElrath and Skylar Benesh led UNI with two hits a piece on three plate appearances. McElrath recorded the lone homerun of the contest. In the circle, Anna Wischnowski finished with four strikeouts.

UP NEXT

The Panthers hit the road for the first time this season with a road trip to Kentucky to take on Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, February 19. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
