UNI softball finished the Furman Classic with a 4-0 victory over host Paladins

GREENVILLE, S.C. — UNI softball wrapped up the Furman Classic on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against the host Furman Paladins. The matchup opened with a lot of defense until UNI came through in the top of the seventh inning to take home a 4-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers and the Paladins battled back-and-forth to no avail on either side of the diamond through the first six innings of play. UNI broke through in the top of the seventh frame starting off with a homerun from Drew Hinrichs. The freshman's second homerun of the weekend gave the Cats a 1-0 lead before a single from Katelyn Callahan scored Adalyn Reynolds for UNI's second run of the inning for a 2-0 lead.

With one out, Addison Brunner grounded out to shortstop but Katy Olive crossed the plate for the Panthers to give UNI a 3-0 lead with two outs in the seventh inning. A two-out single from Skylar Benesh scored Brynlee Slockett to continue the Panther onslaught of runs in the seventh.

UNI let one base runner on in the bottom of the seventh but came away with a 4-0 victory, the Panthers' third shutout of the season.

Drew Hinrichs led the UNI offense with two hits on three at-bats. In the circle, Anna Wischnowski picked up her fourth win with two strikeouts. The pitcher gave up just one hit in the contest.

The Panthers head to Wofford to take on the Terriers on Tuesday, Feb. 25. First pitch at Hope Field is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on ESPN+
