UNI volleyball sweeps Indiana State for tenth straight win

Offense and serving game boost Panthers to 7-0 in league play. UNI visits Evansville on Saturday.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Reese Booth dished out a career-high three service aces with Cassidy Hartman tallying double-digit kill figures for a fifth straight match on Friday as the UNI volleyball team captured its tenth consecutive victory with a 3-0 sweep of the Indiana State Sycamores at ISU Arena.
Northern Iowa racked up 42 team terminations on a .317 hitting percentage to post its fourth straight 3-0 sweep and stay undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play. The Panthers also extended their MVC regular season winning streak to 43 straight matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNI faced an early challenge from the Sycamores in the first set with a strong blocking defense. Booth would notch the match's first service ace early as the Panthers gradually pulled away late from Indiana State thanks to a .159 hitting clip and 13 team kills. Lily Dykstra led UNI with four terminations with Hartman and Isabelle Elliott each tallying three kills in a 25-19 win.
Northern Iowa dominated the second stanza, overcoming an early 3-1 Sycamore lead and never looking back. The Panther offense cruised with an impressive 16 team kills on .556 hitting and just one attack error with Booth dishing out a late service ace. Hartman added seven kills to her total in the set with Dykstra adding four terminations in the 25-14 victory to take a 2-0 match lead.
Dykstra provided a key boost for the Panthers with two aces in the first four points of the third set as Indiana State tested UNI early. Northern Iowa would break away from a 10-10 tie after Booth dished out her third ace of the night with the Panther offense hitting .344 with 13 team terminations. Jadyn Petersen would add a fourth ace for UNI late in the set as UNI combined for three blocks in the final frame for a 25-16 win to complete the three-set sweep.
Hartman finished the match with 14 kills as Dykstra posted 11 terminations and a season-high four blocks with two aces. Elliott notched seven kills in the Panther victory as Maryn Bixby tallied six kills and four blocks, while Kaitlyn Sellner recorded a match-high five blocks and two kills with Molly Shafer also adding two kills. Booth led with 21 assists in addition to her three aces and eight digs as Sydney Golden posted 15 assists, with Petersen notching a team-high 11 digs.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI improves to 70-7 all-time with its fifth consecutive win over Indiana State, and improves to 32-5 on the road against the Sycamores.
- The Panthers have now won 43 straight matches in MVC regular season play dating back to the start of the 2023 conference schedule, the third-longest such streak in program history and the third-longest active streak in Division I volleyball. The Panthers have also won 49 straight matches over MVC challengers in both the regular season and postseason (longest active streak in Division I). Northern Iowa's last loss to a conference opponent came in the 2022 regular season finale at Drake.
- Northern Iowa went a perfect three-for-three in coaches challenges against the Sycamores, improving to a .444 success rate this season
- Friday marked the third time in conference play this season UNI has dished out five or more service aces.
- The Panthers have recorded nine or more blocks in five of their last six matches.
- Cassidy Hartman has recorded ten or more kills in 14 of UNI's 19 matches this year.
- Lily Dykstra has recorded eight or more kills in all 19 matches this season, including her last 20 outings dating back to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
- Setters Sydney Golden and Reese Booth both continue to inch closer to joining UNI's 1,000 career point club. Golden is 49 assists away while Booth needs 54 assists.
