CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI Athletics announced Wednesday the hiring of Dr. Chris Larimer as the new public address (PA) announcer for UNI women's basketball, beginning with the 2025-26 season. Larimer replaces Gina Rogers who lent her voice and talents to the Panthers during the 2024-25 campaign before moving out-of-state in the off-season.
A Cedar Falls native and UNI graduate, Larimer earned his bachelor's degree from Northern Iowa in 2001 before completing a master's (2003) and Ph.D. (2006) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He currently serves as a professor of political science at UNI and brings announcing experience as the voice of the Panther Marching Band.
"I am beyond excited about this opportunity," said Larimer. "My family and I have so many great memories watching UNI women's basketball over the years. This is a premier program with a long history of great players and a great coaching staff, and I'm looking forward to being part of the gameday experience."
In addition to his teaching role, Larimer is the program coordinator for UNI's Master of Public Policy program and serves as a member of the Panther Scholarship Club board of directors. He is also a published scholar, with multiple books and journal articles to his credit.
Fans will hear Larimer behind the microphone for the first time when UNI opens its 2025-26 season in an exhibition matchup against Truman State on October 29 at the McLeod Center.
