Panthers split weekend series with a loss at Missouri State

UNI women’s basketball returns to Iowa after an 81-45 loss in Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — UNI women's basketball traveled to Springfield, Missouri to take on the Missouri State Lady Bears inside the Great Southern Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Bears controlled the matchup from tip to final whistle, taking home an 81-45 victory over the Panthers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was all Missouri State as the Lady Bears took control early with a five-point run early in the first quarter, an eight-point run late in the first, and a 10-point run to open the second quarter. Missouri State shot 74.1% (20-for-27) from the floor and 62.5% (5-for-8) from beyond the arc in the first half. Kayba Laube drained three three-pointers for the Panthers and led UNI scoring with nine points at the break. The Lady Bears took a 48-30 lead at halftime.
The Lady Bears' high-powered offense continued to thrive as Missouri State took home a victory in Springfield. MSU finished the second half with 33 points to UNI's 15 for an 81-45 final in favor of the home team. Kayba Laube led UNI with 12 points. She added four boards. Laube was the lone Panther in double figures with both Maya McDermott and Ryley Goebel finishing with nine apiece.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI falls to 10-10 on the season and 5-4 in conference play with the 81-45 loss at Missouri State.
- UNI continued an active program-record 552-game three-pointer streak that started December 6, 2008, versus Green Bay (6-of-19) following a 0-of-14 outing from behind the three-point arc December 3, 2008, against Northern Illinois. The Panthers knocked down six threes against Missouri State to continue the streak.
- Maya McDermott moved up to number five on UNI's all-time scoring list passing Diane Roberts' (1984-88) 1,701 career points mark. McDermott sits with 1,705 points after nine points against Missouri State. McDermott also passed Nicole Clausen (2006-10) for fifth place on UNI's all-time three-point list. McDermott has recorded 207 threes in her career.
