Panthers drop home contest against Belmont.

UNI women’s basketball dropped its second consecutive in a 74-60 loss to Belmont.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI women's basketball hosted the Belmont Bruins in game two of a two-game homestand. The first half saw the Panthers and the Bruins battle back and forth before the second half proved to be all Belmont with the Bruins taking home a 74-60 victory in Iowa.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Back-and-forth buckets to open the first quarter with an 8-6 score in favor of the Bruins at the first media timeout. Six points from Emerson Green closed out the first frame with the contest tied at 14. UNI did not record a three-pointer in the first frame to the Bruins' two. Each team recorded five field goals in the 10 minutes.
A 6-3 Panther run opened the second quarter to put UNI ahead by three at 20-17. A seven-point UNI run closed the first half which included a triple from Kayba Laube. UNI improved its shooting from beyond the arc going 2-for-4 from deep in the second quarter. The Panthers led 35-33 heading into the halftime break.
An eight-point run in the third quarter and a 10-point run in the fourth pushed the Belmont lead out to a spot the Panthers could not come back from. The Bruins left Cedar Falls with a 74-60 victory over the Panthers. UNI was led by Maya McDermott with 16 points. She added five assists and four rebounds to her total. Ryley Goebel was the other lone Panther in double figures with 14 points. Goebel shot 60% (6-for-10) from the floor and added five rebounds.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI falls to 9-9 on the season and 4-3 in conference play after the loss to Belmont. The Bruins continue to be perfect against the Panthers with a 6-0 record when playing UNI.
- UNI continued an active program-record 550-game three-pointer streak that started December 6, 2008, versus Green Bay (6-of-19) following a 0-of-14 outing from behind the three-point arc December 3, 2008, against Northern Illinois. The Panthers knocked down three threes against Belmont to continue the streak.
- Kaylee Corbin recorded a career-high six rebounds against the Bruins.
