
Panthers get back into the win column with victory at Bradley

UNI women’s basketball closed its Illinois road trip with a 67-44 victory at Bradley
PEORIA, Illinois — UNI women's basketball wrapped its road trip to Illinois with a matchup at Bradley on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers and the Braves battled back-and-forth to open the contest, but the UNI offense opened up the game in the fourth quarter, finishing the matchup with a 67-44 victory in Peoria, Illinois.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers struck first with a pair of baskets from Ryley Goebel. The teams traded three-pointers and battled basket-for-basket until the final buzzer of the first quarter where Goebel beat the buzzer on a wing jumper to give UNI an 18-16 lead heading into the second quarter.
Much of the same came from both teams in the second quarter which saw each team score 11 points giving UNI a two-point lead at 29-27 heading into the second half. In the second quarter, each team was 5-for-13 from the floor and 1-for-5 from deep. Maya McDermott scored six of the Panther points in the frame.
The Panthers worked to pull away in the third quarter as the Cats opened on a 4-0 run but Bradley wouldn't stay down as they responded with a seven-point run to take a 34-33 lead. An eight-point Panther run put the Braves back into a seven-point hole at 41-34 before the teams traded free throws down the stretch to end the third quarter with the Panthers up six at 45-39 heading into the final frame.
McDermott opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back buckets to force a Bradley timeout early in the frame. The UNI offense opened up the floodgates, finishing the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to take home a 67-44 victory. The Panthers outscored the Braves 22-5 in the final frame. Maya McDermott and Kayba Laube led the Panthers with 21 points each. Laube added eight rebounds to her total. Ryley Goebel was the other lone Panther in double figures with 10 points. Goebel also led UNI with Laube with eight rebounds.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- UNI improves to 9-7 on the season and 4-1 in MVC play with the 67-44 victory over Bradley.
- Maya McDermott finished with 21 points. It was her 15th double-figure game of the season.
- Kayba Laube's 21 points resulted in her sixth 20+-point performance of the season.
- UNI continued an active program-record 548-game three-pointer streak that started December 6, 2008, versus Green Bay (6-of-19) following a 0-of-14 outing from behind the three-point arc December 3, 2008, against Northern Illinois. The Panthers knocked down seven threes against Bradley to continue the streak.
