UNI men’s basketball alum joins Team USA for 2024 Olympic basketball tournament

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- A familiar face from the UNI men's basketball program will have a unique perspective to this summer's Olympic basketball tournament as Panther alum Klint Carlson serves as the video coordinator for the United States men's five-on-five team in Paris.
A 2018 UNI graduate and Waverly, Iowa native, Carlson played four seasons with the Panthers under head coach Ben Jacobson, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 114 career games. In his first two seasons off the bench, Carlson helped contribute to a program record 31-win season his freshman year, as well as two Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances (2015, 2016).
A member of the 2016 MVC All-Bench and All-Tournament teams, Carlson played professionally in the Czech Republic for two seasons after graduating. Beginning his professional coaching career in November of 2020, he joined the NBA's Charlotte Hornets as a video intern before becoming the team's assistant video coordinator the following year. In August 2022, Carlson joined the Golden State Warriors fresh off an NBA championship as a player development coach and later adding video coordinator duties to his list of responsibilities.
The U.S. Men's Olympic Team, led by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, includes 12 high profile NBA stars, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid. The top-ranked team in the world, the U.S. team has won the gold medal in the five-on-five tournament 16 times, including each of the last four Olympic Games.
Carlson and Team USA will open Olympic tournament action on Sunday, July 28 against Serbia, with additional preliminary round games against South Sudan (July 31) and Puerto Rico (August 3). The knockout round will begin on August 6 with the medal games set for August 10. All games can be watched live on either NBC or USA Network.
