
UNI swim & dive: Eight selected to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS --- Eight members of the UNI swimming and diving team earned Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Faith Larsen, Hannah Nedder, Amber Finke, Erica Peters, Sydney Aird, Taylor Short, Scout Bergwall and Olivia Chambers all excelled both in the classroom and in the pool throughout the year.Â

Faith Larsen, Junior - Eden Prairie, Minn.
Larsen once again took home the crown as the MVC 50-yard freestyle champion, after sprinting a 22.61 to top the leaderboard. Larsen was also a part of the MVC record breaking 200-yard freestyle relay, who took home first place in 1:30.89. In the 100-yard freestyle, Larsen notched tenth overall (50.63) and ninth in the 100-yard fly. In the 400-yard medley relay, Larsen contributed to a fourth place overall finish and a third place overall finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay.Â
Hannah Nedder- Sophomore - Pella, Iowa
Nedder competed in the 100-yard fly, and took home 13th overall in the conference after a 55.88 in the finals. Nedder also swam the 50-yard freestyle, taking home 28th overall (24.12), and 30th overall in the 100-yard freestyle. Nedder was a part of the fourth place 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 3:42.25.Â
Amber Finke - Senior - Carol Stream, Ill.
Finke notched two second place finishes for the MVC Championships, both in the 100-yard (54.26) and 200-yard (1:56.39) backstroke. FInke also placed tenth overall in the 200 IM, after swimming an impressive (2:03.21) and helped contribute to the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (1:41.11). In the 400-yard medley relay, Finke swam a 55.09 split to help the Panthers clinch fourth place overall. Finke ended the championships by getting third place overall in the 400-yard freestyle relay, swimming a split of 49.18, and a team final time of 3:19.16.Â
Erica Peters - Sophomore - Ankeny, IowaÂ
Peters started the MVC Championships by teaming up with Avery Hogan and Trista Thompson for first place in the exhibition team diving event, after getting a combined score of 261.40. On the one-meter dive, Peters secured eighth place overall, with a final score of 241.15. For the three-meter dive, Peters clinched 11th overall with a 258.00.Â
Sydney Aird - Sophomore - Green Bay, Wisc.
Aird finished the MVC championships by taking home tenth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.39) and 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.56). In the 200-yard IM, Aird finished 18th overall in 2:05.69. Aird was also a part of the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (1:41.15), and the 400-yard medley relay (3:42.25) that clinched fourth.Â
Taylor Short - Senior - Waukesha, Wisc.
Short swam in the 50-yard freestyle, where she placed 35th overall with a 24.65. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Short clinched 30th overall (1:09.96) and 38th in the 100-yard freestyle (54.39).Â
Scout Bergwall - Senior - Ankeny, Iowa
Bergwall landed on the podium for the 100-yard backstroke, after notching sixth place overall in 55.78. In the 200-yard backstroke, Bergwall swam a 2:02.93 in the finals to secure a 12th place overall finish. Bergwall also swam the 100-yard butterfly, which landed her 20th overall in the conference after a 56.71 final time. She was also apart of the 200-yard medley relay that placed fifth overall (1:41.11).
Olivia Chambers - Junior - Little Rock, Ark.
Chambers swam in the 500-yard freestyle event, clinching 19th overall in 5:01.90. Chambers also took on the 1650-yard freestyle, where she placed 12th overall (17:11.46). In the 400-yard IM finals, Chambers took 13th overall in the conference, swimming a 4:29.11. Chambers contributed to the 800-yard freestyle relay that took home seventh overall, where she swam a 1:52.78 split (7:24.36).Â
