Meyer sets new program record on day three of MVC Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- Day three of the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Swimming and Diving Championships saw the UNI Panthers rack up four top-eight finishes and a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle at the Deaconess Aquatic Center.
Faith Larsen kicked off Friday night's finals session with a tenth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 55.36 seconds and Hannah Nedder also swam a career-best time to take 13th place (55.88) in the B-final. Scout Bergwall placed 20th in the event in the C-final with a time of 56.71. Olivia Chambers clocked a time of 4:29.11 in the 400-yard individual medley to clinch 13th place, as Meghan Pallett took 21st place (4:34.76).Â
Morgan Meyer etched her name into UNI history in the 200-yard freestyle during the morning preliminary heats, swimming a school-record time of 1:49.40 before shattering her own record in the finals later in the day with a 1:48.83 to finish in sixth place on the podium. Meyer's record breaking swims in the event broke teammate Amber Finke's 2023 school record of 1:49.43.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Finke found her way to the podium for a fourth consecutive year in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 54.26 behind Southern Illinois' Celia Pulido by just over one second. Bergwall followed Finke in sixth place with a career-best time of 55.78 seconds.
Sydney Aird led Northern Iowa in the 100-yard breaststroke, where she claimed tenth place after a career-best swim of 1:03.39. UNI ended the night with Nedder joining Finke, Aird and Larsen to capture a fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, after clocking a final time of 3:42.25, the third-fastest mark in program history.
In the three-meter diving competition, three Panthers reached the consolation final where Hannah Taylor led the charge for the purple and gold, finishing ninth overall with a career-best score of 264.85, high enough to crack the program's top-ten all-time list. Erica Peters followed behind in 11th place (258.00) and Abby Hutchins in 13th (222.05).
The final day of the MVC Championships will showcase the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, the three-meter diving championship round and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
