Panther swim & dive opens MVC Championships with exhibition team diving title

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- UNI opened up the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday night with an exhibition event title and two top-eight finishes in relays.
Night one at the Deaconess Aquatic Center began with the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Amber Finke, Sydney Aird, Scout Bergwall and Faith Larsen taking home fifth place overall with a time of 1:41.11, the third-best time in program history. Larsen's split of 21.97 seconds was the fastest 50-yard sprint split, to give her the fastest freestyle split time in school history. Hannah Nedder and Waren Graeve moved up on the individual leaderboards in UNI's B-relay with Nedder swimming the program's third-fastest butterfly split in 24.43, and Graeve tying the fourth-best split in the free with a 22.72
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Northern Iowa took home seventh place with a final time of 7:24.36 with the team of Finke, Morgan Meyer, Abby Lear and Olivia Chambers also securing the third-fastest time in UNI history. Meyer shattered the previous split-record for the 800-yard freestyle, swimming a stellar 1:48.10.Â
In the exhibition team diving event, UNI's A-team took home first place overall, with Avery Hogan, Trista Thompson and Erica Peters combining for a 261.40. UNI-B, showcasing the likes of Maddie Moran, Hannah Taylor and Abby Hutchins, took home fourth place overall with a 237.00.Â

Day two of the MVC Championships resumes on Thursday with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and one-meter diving competitions.
