Eleven Panthers tabbed to Phil Steele All-MVFC squad

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Phil Steele released his 2024 FCS season awards on Friday morning and the Panthers landed 11 on the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) list.
Two Panthers were named to the All-MVFC Second Team including offensive lineman Jared Penning and Sergio Morancy as a kick returner. Five Panthers were tabbed All-MVFC Fourth Teamers including running back Tye Edwards, wide receiver Sergio Morancy, tight end Layne Pryor, defensive lineman Carter Hewitt, and linebacker Tucker Langenberg. The last four Panthers were named to the Fifth Team including offensive lineman Tristan Roper, defensive lineman and all-purpose selection Derek Anderson, and defensive back Jonathan Cabral-Martin.
Sergio Morancy (KR/WR)
Sergio Morancy led UNI receivers with 543 yards and seven touchdowns on 37 receptions. He averaged 14.68 yards per reception with a long reception of 69 yards against Indiana State. Morancy led the MVFC with four touchdowns and 24 points in a single game and was one of three players in the Valley to score three receiving touchdowns in the same game. Morancy became the first UNI Panther to run back a punt and a kickoff in the same season since 2016 as he ran back the first punt since 2016 for UNI and the first kickoff since 2016. Morancy was one of five MVFC players to return a punt for a touchdown. He finished second in the Valley and eighth in the nation in kickoff return touchdowns (1) and kickoff return yards per game (27.7), was first in the Valley and third in the nation with a punt return TD, and was fifth in the Valley and 35th in the nation with seven receiving touchdowns.
Jared Penning (OL)
Jared Penning anchored an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks on the season and allowed a top-six team passing efficiency of 132.98.
Tye Edwards (RB)
Tye Edwards led the UNI rushing effort with 1,012 yards and six touchdowns and was UNI's first 1,000-yard rusher since Aaron Bailey (1,334) and Tyvis Smith (1,079) in 2015. Edwards was one of three players in the Valley to rush for over 1,000 yards on the season and was the only player in the Valley to go over 200 rushing yards in a single game with 229 yards against Indiana State. He finished third in the MVFC and 12th in the nation in rushing yards per carry (6.45), third in the Valley and 26th in the nation in rushing yards (1,012), and fourth in the conference and 36th in the nation in rushing yards per game (84.3).
Layne Pryor (TE)
Layne Pryor finished the 2024 season with 242 yards and two touchdowns on 30 receptions.
Carter Hewitt (DL)
Carter Hewitt recorded 52 total tackles including 40 assisted tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards.
Tucker Langenberg (LB)
Tucker Langenberg led the Panthers with 82 total tackles including 36 solo tackles. He recorded an interception against Hawaii for 14 yards and a new career high in total tackles with 15 against Illinois State.
Tristan Roper (OL)
Tristan Roper anchored an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks on the season and allowed a team passing efficiency of 132.98.
Derek Anderson (DL/AP)
Derek Anderson played both ways at tight end and defensive line. He recorded 13 total tackles in six games on the defensive line including 2.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards. On the offensive side of the ball, Anderson recorded 70 yards on six receptions with a long of 26 yards and a two-point conversion reception.
Jonathan Cabral-Martin was second on UNI's defense in total tackles with 80 tackles on the 2024 season. He led UNI with 44 solo tackles and recorded a career-high 13 tackles against St. Thomas while recording double-digit tackles in three matchups.
