Anderson, Cabral-Martin named Scholar Athletes

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) released its 2024 MVFC Scholar-Athlete Team as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Derek Anderson and Jonathan Cabral-Martin highlighted the teams from UNI. Anderson was named to the Second Team while Cabral-Martin was tabbed an Honorable Mention.
46 total student-athletes from around the MVFC were honored on first, second and honorable mention teams for their academic success during the 2024 season. Linebacker Adam Bock of South Dakota State was voted the 2024 MVFC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A 4.0 GPA student with a major in Psychological Studies, Anderson played both ways at tight end and defensive line. Recorded 13 total tackles in six games on the defensive line including 2.5 tackles for a loss of seven yards. On the offensive side of the ball, recorded 70 yards on six receptions with a long of 26 yards and a two-point conversion reception.
A 3.67 GPA student with a major in Communications, Cabral-Martin was second on UNI's defense in total tackles with 80 tackles on the 2024 season. Led UNI with 44 solo tackles. Recorded a career-high 13 tackles against St. Thomas and recorded double-digit tackles in three matchups.
