Tytan Anderson selected to Lou Henson Award early season watchlist

BOSTON, Mass. --- UNI men's basketball's Tytan Anderson has been named to the Lou Henson Award early season watchlist, as announced on Tuesday.
Named in honor of Lou Henson, the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who appeared in 12 NCAA Tournaments and the 1989 NCAA Final Four with the Fighting Illini, the award is presented annually to the top play in mid-major college basketball.
Anderson, a Eldridge, Iowa native and senior forward for the Panthers, is among 50 players selected to the watchlist, which also includes two other athletes from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in Bradley's Duke Deen and Murray State's JaCobi Wood.
The recipient of the award is determined by a ten-member voting committee of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members from collegeinsider.com. The winner will be announced in April at the 2025 NCAA Final Four in San Antonio, Tex.
Anderson, a Preseason First Team All-MVC selection this year, is tied for the team lead with 13.5 points per game through the first four games of the 2024-25 season, while also leading UNI with 6.5 rebounds per game this year.
In 33 games started last season, he notched 11.9 points per game average with 28.4 minutes played per contest. Anderson led the Panthers with 7.1 rebounds per game along with a team-high 42 steals and 21 blocked shots while shooting 49.2% from the field. Recording five double-doubles last season and joining the program's 500 career point club, Anderson notably set UNI's postseason record with 19 boards against Belmont in the MVC Tournament quarterfinals.
Anderson and the Panthers return to action tonight as they take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks in non-conference action at 7 p.m. CT inside the McLeod Center.
