Three athletes highlight the UNI women’s basketball 2025 signing class
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's basketball team announced on Wednesday the signing of three athletes to its 2025 class. Maren Schmotzer, Abby Tuttle, and Anna Greene headline the Panthers' 2025 signing class.
"We are so excited to add these three amazing young women to our Panther family," said head coach Tanya Warren. "Abby is a true floor general who is as good of a passer as we have recruited in my career. With Maren and Anna, we add some size and athleticism to our frontcourt. Maren is a great defender who has the ability to put the ball on the floor and Anna is a true stretch post player who can really shoot the three and can also score on the block. All three fit really well with our returning roster and I know Panther fans will enjoy watching them the next four years."
MAREN SCHMOTZER
A forward out of Madison, Wisconsin, Maren Schmotzer attended Edgewood High School and played basketball under head coach Lora Staveness. Heading into her senior year with the Crusaders, Schmotzer has been named an All-Conference Honorable Mention and Division 3 State champion forward on the basketball court and a volleyball team captain. In the classroom, she was named to the Academic All-State list in her sophomore and junior years. With over 100 documented service hours, the Madison native chose UNI because of "the competitive level of athletics and because I had a great visit where I connected well with both the coaches and players."
ABBY TUTTLE
A guard out of Polk City, Iowa, Abby Tuttle attended North Polk High School where she played basketball under head coach Clint Albertson. Heading into her senior year with the Comets, Tuttle has been named a team captain of the basketball team all four years, a three-time All-State and First Team All-Conference guard, and the North Polk All-Time assist leader. She has averaged double-digit points her sophomore and junior seasons. The three-time Conference Champion, sophomore season State runner-up, and junior season State Semi-finalist has been named to the Spanish Honor Society and Gold Honor Roll four times each in her time at North Polk. The Polk City native chose UNI because of "the competitive and family environment that all the coaches and players have shaped the program into."
ANNA GREENE
A forward out of Mahtomedi, Minnesota, Anna Greene attended Mahtomedi High School where she played basketball under head coach Aneshia Fisher. Heading into senior season with the Zephyrs, Greene has been named an All-State Honorable Mention forward, a three-time All-Conference athlete, and team captain. The 1,000-point scorer also holds the Mahtomedi High School record with 39 points in a single game. Averaging 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in her junior year, Greene was a part of three straight conference championship seasons and has seen 50 straight conference wins in her three seasons with the Zephyrs. The Mahtomedi native chose UNI because of the academics, coaches, facilities, campus, and because it was close to home.
