Kacie Rewerts named MVC Volleyball’s Defensive Player of the Week

Graduate transfer notched 15 total blocks to help the Panthers improve to 4-0 in league play this past weekend.
ST. LOUIS --- UNI volleyball's Kacie Rewerts has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The selection marks the fourth time she received the honor in her career and first as a Panthers, and is also the third different UNI player to earn weekly honors from the conference.
A Nevada, Iowa native and graduate transfer from Drake University, Rewerts put up a tremendous defensive effort this past weekend to help Northern Iowa secure a pair of road wins in league play, including eight blocks in a 3-2, reverse sweep victory at Valparaiso on Friday, and a dominating 3-0 sweep at UIC on Saturday, where she recorded seven blocks. The Panthers are now 4-0 in MVC play for the third consecutive year and fourth time in the last six seasons.
Rewerts, who leads all NCAA teams across all divisions among active players in career blocks, notably surpassed 600 blocks over the weekend and moved ahead of Missouri State's Mindy Stuckhoff (1985-88) for fifth on the MVC's all-time block assists list with 531. Her 1.2 blocks per set are the most among all players in the MVC, while her 71 total blocks are second-most in the league.
Rewerts and the Panthers return to action this weekend as they open up a three-match homestand, hosting Belmont on Friday at 6 p.m. CT, Murray State on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT and Drake on Monday at 6 p.m. CT.
