ST. LOUIS --- UNI outside hitter Kira Fallert has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Fallert, a junior hailing from Maplewood, Minnesota picks up the first weekly conference award of her career after a breakout weekend for the Panthers at Creighton's Bluejay Invitational over the weekend. Selected to the All-Tournament team during UNI's run in Omaha, she posted 41 kills and dished out four service aces in helping the Panthers secure victories over LSU and Ball State, both NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.
Fallert recorded a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, which included a season-highs in terminations (18), points (12), aces (3), digs (16) and blocks (2) against No. 20 Creighton in the tournament's de-facto title match.
Through six matches this year, Fallert leads UNI with 80 kills on 243 attempts, and is tied for the team lead with seven service aces. She is also second on the roster with 61 digs, and ranks second in the MVC in attacks per set (11.0).
Fallert and the Panthers return to action on Thursday as UNI heads south for the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station. UNI's first match against TCU is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT with radio coverage available on the Panther Sports Radio Network.
