UNI ranks in the top ten nationally in team cumulative GPA for the 2022-23 season.
ATLANTA --- The UNI women's basketball team tied for the eighth highest team grade-point average among Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) members during the 2022-23 season, as announced by the WBCA on Tuesday.
The WBCA Academic Top-25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2022-23 season is the 28th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
In a season that saw the Panthers post a 23-11 record on the court, UNI posted a 3.71 cumulative GPA en route to a second round appearance in the WNIT. All members of the UNI roster also notched a cumulative GPA over 3.10 on an individual basis.
"The level in which our young women consistently perform on the court, in the classroom & give back to our community is remarkable," said UNI head coach Tanya Warren. "I am so proud and honored to coach them!"
The Panthers have been named to the WBCA's Academic Top-25 Honor Roll 18 times since 2001, and 12 times under Warren. UNI has cracked the list's top ten 12 times, including nine times since 2008.
UNI is slated to open the 2023-24 season with an Oct. 30 exhibition against Central inside the McLeod Center, before hosting Green Bay in the regular season opener at home on Nov. 6.
