ST. LOUIS --- UNI track and field's David Holesinger II has been selected as UNI's spring recipient of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Good Neighbor Award, as announced by the conference office and Commissioner Jeff Jackson on Tuesday afternoon.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport during the season of recognition. The MVC recognizes one student-athlete from each member institution three times annually (fall, winter, and spring), for a total of 36 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
Holesinger, a senior from Dubuque, Iowa, has been part of the Panther track and field/cross country program since 2019 as a distance runner, recently graduated from UNI with a degree in marketing and sports administration. A three-time selection to the MVC Honor Roll, he was also a member of the National Honor Society and a nominee for UNI's Student Leader Award.
An active member of the Cedar Valley community, Holesinger founded and served as co-President of the UNI chapter of Morgan's Message, a campus-wide organization dedicated to helping break the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics. Under his leadership, UNI's chapter of Morgan's Message was honored with UNI's award for the Most Promising Student Organization.
Holesinger has also been involved in volunteering activities at the Gift of Giving and the Cedar Valley Jaycees Event. He also participated in UNI's 2022 homecoming parade, and volunteered to speak to students at nearby Poyner Elementary School on the subject of leadership.
Holesinger competed in seven meets for the Panthers during the outdoor track and field season, running the 800 and 1,500 meters, as well as the 4x400-meter relay. He ran a career-best time of 3:55.27 in the mile run at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic in April, and later took 14th place in the event at the MVC Championships.
