UNI football lands eight on All-MVFC list

The Panthers earned five first-teamers and three honorable mentions after the 2023 season.
CEDAR FALLS — The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) announced their all-conference selections on Monday morning as voted on by head coaches, sports information, and media personnel.
This season, five Panthers were named to the All-MVFC First Team with wide receiver Sam Schnee, offensive lineman Jared Penning, defensive lineman Khristian Boyd, defensive back Woo Governor, and placekicker Matthew Cook being named to the team. Defensive lineman Cordarrius Bailey, tight end Layne Pryor, and punter Noah Pettinger were named as honorable mentions to the All-MVFC teams.
Sam Schnee - WR
A wide receiver from Dubuque, Iowa, Sam Schnee is claiming All-MVFC honors for the second time in his career after being named to the All-MVFC Honorable Mention squad last season. The redshirt senior was both UNI's and the conference's leading receiver with 1,041 total receiving yards and 94.64 per game as well as 18.26 yards per reception. Schnee had three 100+ receiving yard games including a season-high 174 yards against No. 9 North Dakota State and recorded a season-long 66-yard reception against Missouri State. A 2023 team captain, he scored six touchdowns on the season, the fifth-best conference mark, and moved to seventh on UNI's all-time receiving yards list and the 11th Panther to join the 2,000+ receiving yard club.
Jared Penning - OL
An offensive lineman from Clear Lake, Iowa, Jared Penning is claiming All-MVFC honors for the first time in his career. The 6-6 left tackle anchored an offensive line on a UNI offense that was the second-best passing team in the MVFC with 2,950 total passing yards and 268.18 passing yards per game. Penning was named the MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week on October 23.
Khristian Boyd - DL
A defensive lineman from Kansas City, Missouri, Khristian Boyd is claiming All-MVFC honors for the second time in his career after a Second Team appearance last season. The redshirt senior recorded 43 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for a loss of 28 yards, a career-high. The 2023 team captain tied his career-high with 3.5 sacks for 23 yards.
Woo Governor - DB
A defensive back from Plant City, Florida, Woo Governor is claiming All-MVFC honors for the second time in his career after a Second-Team season last year. The senior recorded 61 total tackles and three tackles for a loss of 10 yards. Governor forced two fumbles, the highest mark in the MVFC, and deflected three passes. Tallied a season-high 13 tackles at No. 1 South Dakota State.
Matthew Cook - PK
A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Matthew Cook is claiming his fifth All-MVFC First Team honor. Possibly the best kicker to come through FCS football, Cook finished his career a perfect 155-155 in PATs with 31 coming this season. He scored 88 total points on the season, the second-highest mark in the MVFC, and became the second player in MVFC history to reach 400 career points. Cook recorded a league-high 1.73 field goals per game and a 90.48 field goal percentage while making the most field goals in the MVFC this season (19) with a long of 50 yards against Indiana State. This season, Cook broke the UNI scoring record set by David Johnson in 2014.
Cordarrius Bailey - DL
A Clarksdale, Mississippi native, Cordarrius Bailey is claiming All-MVFC honors for the first time in his career. Last season he was named to the MVFC All-Newcomer team. This season, Bailey recorded 33 total tackles including 10 tackles for a loss of 45 yards while tallying six sacks for 37 yards, the eighth-best mark in the MVFC for sacks.
Layne Pryor - TE
A tight end from Woodbine, Iowa, Layne Pryor is claiming All-MVFC honors for the first time in his career. The junior recorded 11 receptions and 119 yards with one touchdown in seven games. Pryor had a season-long 17-yard reception against No. 9 North Dakota State and averaged 10.8 yards per reception.
Noah Pettinger - P
A Dubuque, Iowa native, Noah Pettinger is claiming All-MVFC honors for the first time in his career. He was named to the All-Newcomer list last season. The redshirt freshman recorded 43.62 yards per punt, the second-best mark in the MVFC, and kicked 15 punts that were downed inside the 20-yard line. Pettinger had 10 50+ yard punts and recorded a career-long 61-yard punt against No. 9 North Dakota.
