ST. LOUIS --- UNI's Emily Holterhaus has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The selection is the first weekly conference honor of her career.
Holterhaus receives the honor after recording 38 total kills (5.43 per set)Â in helping UNI stay undefeated in conference play with its 12th straight match with a 3-1 win at Drake last Monday, a 3-0 sweep at Belmont and 3-1 victory at Murray State.Â
Following back-to-back performances of 18 terminations at Drake and Belmont, Holterhaus made history as the sixth member of the program's 1,500 career kills club following a season-high 20 kill outing against the Racers in Kentucky. With a .314 hitting percentage on the week, Holterhaus also notched six total blocks, including three solo stops against the Bruins. Holterhaus ranks third in the MVC with 291 total kills (3.78 per set) and fourth in points per set score (4.21).
The selection marks the third MVC weekly honor of the season for the Panthers, following the selection of Kira Fallert as MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5, and Erin Powers as MVC Defensive Player of the Week last week.
A native of Pella, Iowa, Holterhaus is the daughter of John and Angie Holterhaus, and sister of Donovan. The senior outside hitter is currently majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Strength and Conditioning.
Holterhaus and the Panthers return to action this Friday as UNI hosts Illinois State at 6 p.m. CT in the McLeod Center for its White Out match and First Responder Night. UNI will also face off with Bradley on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT for a Black Out match and its Trick Or Treat night.
