CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI quarterback Theo Day has earned national recognition following his week seven performance, earning College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Week honorable mention recognition, as announced on Sunday morning.
Day, a redshirt senior out of Canton, Michigan, recorded 239 passing yards on 13 completions with a pair of touchdown passes in UNI's 27-0 homecoming shutout of No. 9 North Dakota, the Panthers' first shutout of a top-10 ranked opponent in school history and second top-25 victory of the year. The third-year Panther passer connected with Sergio Morancy on a season-long 70-yard scoring play late in the second quarter, and later found Brady McCullough on a two-yard touchdown pass in the third period, McCullough's first career score.
Day also moved into fifth in school history with his 51st and 52nd career passing touchdowns and sixth in Panther history with 502 career pass completions.
Day currently leads the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) in four offensive categories
- Passing yards (1,863) [11th nationally]
- Passing yards per game (266.1) [13th nationally]
- Passing yards per completion (13.8) [16th nationally]
- Total offense (255.7) [22nd nationally]
This is the fourth time Day has been recognized in-season by the CFPA, after being named its FCS National Performer of the Week back on Oct. 1 following a 337 passing yard and four touchdown performance in a win against No. 19 Youngstown State. He also earned the weekly honor twice during the 2022 season (Oct. 30, Nov. 20), and was also named to the 2022 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year midseason watch list.
Youngstown State quarterback Mitch Davidson was named the winner of this week's honor, while Day joined fellow quarterback's Dean DeNobile (Lafayette) and Matthew Sluka (Holy Cross) in earning honorable mention recognition.
Day and the Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 28 as UNI travels to take on the Illinois State Redbirds. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT at Hancock Stadium.
