CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI cross country team is set to compete in two meets this Friday and Saturday morning, with select members competing at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., while others run at the Dan Huston Invite, hosted by Wartburg.
The Gans Creek Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri will begin with the men's 8K race at 9 a.m. on Friday, followed by the women's 6K. The Dan Huston Invite at Waverly's Max Cross Country Course will start with the women's 6K at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with the men's 8K to follow.
This weekend's competitions will be the first for UNI since competing in the Redbird Invite two weeks ago in Normal, Ill.
Three Panthers finished in the top-20 individually at the Redbird Invite on the women's side, led by Kate Crawford, who finished 15th in the 83-person field with a time of 22:23. Sophia Jungling took 18th place with a time of 22:37 at the first meet of the 2022 season, while Mia Rampton finished in 18th with a time of 22:37.
On the men's side, Caleb Shumaker had a strong first race with a 15th place finish at the Redbird Invite with a time of 25:30, marking his second consecutive top-25 finish at Illinois State's home meet. Sophomores, Brady Griebel and Payton Marrs both broke into the top-30, with Griebel running a time of 26:01 for a 26th place finish. Marrs finished 6-second behind Griebel in 28th place.
